IHRC HUMAN RIGHTS COMMUNITY HOUSING PROJECTS
In accordance to provision of Affordable Housing listed in SDGs in order to increase and improve housing opportunities for low – and moderate – income households and special needs populations, including the homeless, elderly and disabled individuals, the IHRC Africa Region HQ, set up a mechanism to design ways and means to contribute efforts to the mission of providing affordable housing based on mortgage reforms. Indeed, Nigeria faces a severe housing deficit. This entails creating linkages between provision of land to property developers, increased availability of housing finance, reduction in property transaction costs and job creation across sectors ancillary to the provision of additional housing stock in African countries.
In January 2021, the IHRC communicated to the Federal Government of Nigeria it’s intentions to assist millions of people that live in slums and substandard houses to have adequate housing. The IHRC proposed pro-poor housing scheme in Nigeria is therefore going to be joint venture basis with the Government . It will be to us a dream come true to facilitate an increase in housing stock via PPP partnerships as well as through housing finance reforms. With arrangements concluded for the takeoff of the Human Rights Community Housing Project to be facilitated by the several financial aid packages at our disposal.
Concisely the main decision IHRC-RFT is to work in association with the Government Authorities in the various African countries to provide scattered site housing and human services for the homeless families. The mission is to be extended to providing emergency, transitional and permanent supportive housing in various models for people and households on low to moderate incomes.
The IHRC Community Housing will therefore be comprised of Social Housing (for low income earners) and Affordable Housing (for low-moderate income earners) and of course shelter for those with homeless crisis (Internally Displaced Persons, Persons with Disabilities and Special Health conditions including the people incapacitated by old age etc.
Currently in several African countries, IHRC correspondences of intent to enter the partnership deed and be allocated the Land for the housing project have been received. The submission were drawn up carefully and used to set objectives and define the most important issues between the Parties prior to the signing of the Joint Venture Contract. The details regarding the interest of the Parties to reach agreement will be taken into account during negotiations. Furthermore, the parties would discuss and reach understanding on what each expects to benefit from the joint venture. A documented Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) would be produced.
