The IHRC has full official status of Article 71 of the UN Charter authorizing the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to grant consultative status to INGOs. It is officially accredited with consultative status. The IHRC became officially bestowed with the UN special consultative status in 2016."

PRESIDENT TINUBU GETS COMMENDATION

In a press release dated November 6, 2024, the International Human Rights Commission – Relief Fund Trust (IHRC-RFT) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s decision to pardon 119 individuals detained in connection with the August 1 protests in Kano and Kaduna States. This act of clemency aligns with the fundamental principles of fairness and second chances, as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) and the Nigerian Constitution.

IHRC RFT Country Director for Nigeria, Abdullahi Bakoji Adamu confirmed that the High Council Team of the IHRC RFT is committed to advocating for human rights, promoting judicial independence, and strengthening Nigeria’s adherence to the UDHR and national constitutional values.
